The "boys of
summer" warm up each year in Spring Training action
in Florida and Arizona in the Grapefruit
League and Cactus League respectively . Every year at Spring
Training fans have a chance to see their favorite teams up close
in the smaller more intimate setting of minor league ballparks.
Many players are much more approachable in the more relaxed
setting of Spring Training making it easier to get autographs,
photos and a great seat at prices far less than at the Major
League baseball parks.
The first 2011 Spring Training exhibition will
be held on Thursday, February 24th in Clearwater, Florida, where
the Philadelphia
Phillies will host Florida State University, while the first
Cactus League game will be in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday,
February 25th, when the 2010 World Series Champion
San Francisco Giants
will face the Arizona
Diamondbacks.
On Saturday, February 26th, three Arizona
contests include the inaugural game at Salt River Fields at
Talking Stick in Scottsdale, featuring the clubs that share the
new Spring Training facility, the
D-backs and the
Colorado Rockies. On
the same day at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, the
New York Yankees will
host the Phillies,
the two clubs that competed in the 2009 World Series.
