The Tampa Bay Rays will play
their final game at Progress Energy Park, Home of Al Lang Field, on Friday,
March 28 against the Cincinnati Reds. The Rays will kick off their 2008 Spring
Training schedule on Friday, February 29 against the Reds in
Sarasota, Fla. The 30-game slate includes 14 home games at Progress Energy
Park in downtown St. Petersburg. The home opener will be played on Saturday,
March 1 vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays will host the New York Yankees
on Wednesday, March 12. The Cleveland Indians come to town on Monday, March
10 and Thursday, March 20. The Philadelphia Phillies visit on Friday, March
7 and Wednesday, March 19. The
Rays will move their Spring Training headquarters to the newly renovated
Charlotte Sports Park facility in Port Charlotte, Fla., in 2009. The
historic Al Lang site has accommodated major league Spring Training since
1914, hosting camp for the St. Louis Browns, Phillies, Boston Braves,
Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, New York Mets and the Orioles
prior to the birth of the Rays in 1998. The Rays unveiled plans to build a
new waterfront ballpark on the current site of Progress Energy Park. |
